The Grandview Steelers are building some momentum as they are coming off the OT win last Sunday against the Whalers. The Steelers continue to roll as they entered the MSA Arena and stole 2 points from the Abbotsford Pilots. On Thanksgiving Sunday, the Steelers donned their retro orange colours to face off against the Mission City Outlaws.
Both teams played with speed but didn’t officially register a shot on net until 4 minutes in. The Steelers would use the rush well to gain the offensive zone but were not able to build upon their efforts. The Outlaws also used their speed to counter the Steelers rushes and did a better job hemming them in to rack up the shot meter. The Steelers did take the only penalty as Carter Demelo is called for interference, however the Steelers disrupted the Outlaws and got the best chances. Later in the period, Demelo got the final laugh as he sends a laser of a shot top shelf, where Nana keeps the cookie jar, to open the scoring.
The middle frame didn’t go the way the Steelers wanted as they give up the tying goal early in the period. The Steelers continue to struggle with moving the puck as the Outlaws tenacious effort is causing havoc.
The Outlaws made a mistake and woke up the Steelers. In a matter of minutes the Steelers offense produced two goals starting with a power play marker as Bandesha teams up with Captain Pettingale and Mongrain to regain the lead. Steelers forward Nathan Bran followed up with a shnipe to obtain some insurances. Later in the period, the Steelers Veterans Cox, Demelo and Bua add the final nail in the coffin.
The Steelers outgun the Outlaws in the third and runaway with two points.
The Steelers registered 27 shots and the Outlaws recorded 30 shots.
