The Grandview Steelers are coming off their first road trip to Chilliwack for their first look at the new expansion. The boys in black and gold put up a good fight but it was a losing effort. Tonight, they face the Delta Ice Hawks who are also on the tail end of a back to back set. We’ll have to watch the energy levels of the players and how the coaches manages the bench.
The Steelers redeemed themselves, at least offensively, as they explode for 3 goals against the solid Ice Hawk goaltender in Euerby. The Steelers who set the tone on the first shift as they took to the body every chance they had. The resulted in the Steelers taking away time and space away from the skilled Ice Hawks. The Ice Hawks did create a few turnovers but weren’t able to respond on the scoreboard.
It started off bad in the second period but it could have been a living nightmare. The Ice Hawks scores 2 quick goals to get right back into the game as the Steelers lifted their foot off the gas peddle. A power play goal just after half way from the Steelers changed the momentum back into their favour. The Steelers score on their next shift to restore their 3 goal lead however the Ice Hawks just won’t go away scoring to get within 2 after the Steelers missed a glorious opportunity to increase their lead.
The recipe for success would have been to hold off the Ice Hawks from scoring. Well, throw the book out, cause the Ice Hawks score quickly to set up a comeback within the first two minutes of the period. The Steelers settled down and score just after midway through the period to restore their lead. It was short lived as the Ice Hawks claw back to get within 1. Late in the third, the Ice Hawks take an ill-timing penalty which the Steelers took full advantage to cruise to a victory with the all important 2 points in the race to get into the Playoffs.
The Steelers outlast the Ice Hawks in a barn burner at the House of Steeltown Pride.
The Steelers generated 36 shots while the Ice Hawks registered 37 shots of their own in an all out shoot out in the wild west.
