Steelers Unable to Come Back and Lose Home Opener

The Grandview Steelers. Are. Back. Baby! We missed you!!

The Steelers are back at the House of Steeltown Pride for their season home opener against the red hot Langley Trappers who opened the season on a 2 game winning streak.

Despite the Steelers facing a setback with their season opener last night with a losing effort on the road against the White Rock Whalers, there is a sense of passion, energy and electricity all over the building. Both teams held a short moment of silence to recognize former PJHL President Ray Stonehouse, who passed away last month.

The Steelers get off to a great start as they chip the puck in, got to the puck first and a quick bang bang play to stun the visiting Trappers. The Steelers continued to carry the momentum with a ferocious forecheck but was unable to build the lead. The Trappers settling into the game and began to take over the latter half of the period but couldn’t solve goaltender Kermany.

In the second, the Steelers pressed to build on their lead, however the Trappers speed was causing all sorts of problems. The Trappers cycling and hemming in the Steelers defender caused Kermany to lose sight of the puck momentarily to give up the equalizer with a cross crease shot. Moments later, the Steelers pushed back with a couple of chances but the Trappers counter attack instead gave them the lead. Another breakdown later in the period and the momentum has fully swung as the Steelers give up the third straight goal.

It’s de ja vu as the Steelers find a goal within the first minute to slice the lead in half. The Steelers generated chances to tie the game but was unable to solve Trappers goaltender Bellmann. The Trappers hang on to a 3-2 victory to spoil the Steelers home opener at the House of Steeltown Pride.

The Steelers generated 32 shots while the Trappers produced 28 shots.
