The Grandview Steelers are focused and dialed in for tonight’s match up against the Richmond Sockeyes are they face another divisional opponent after a heart breaking shoot out lost last night against the league leading North Vancouver Wolf Pack. The Steelers took a 3-1 lead into the third getting contributions from Lefebrve, Myers and Mak before the Wolf Pack stormed back in the final period to extend the game into overtime. The Extra period of hockey did little to solve anything as they required a shootout to decide the owner of the extra point.
The pace of the game was like the iconic Vin Diesel movies, the fast and the furious, as it was end to end action. The Sockeyes were starting to pull away with registered shots however both teams were generating chances. Late in the period, a seeing eye shot from Dylan Narduzzi was tipped by Jacob Myers to open the scoring. With 2:56 left in the period, a massive hit in the Sockeyes end of the ice shattered a plane of glass. The extended delay saw both teams head to the locker room early for the intermission.
Once the game resumed the final 2:56 minutes of the first period, the Sockeyes absolutely tested Steelers goaltender Geraghty who sprawled out to be equal to the test. Once the period officially ended, the teams swapped side and commenced the 2nd period. The Steelers were absolutely all over the Sockeyes hemming them for long stretches of play. The hard work paid off as Phillips finishes off a fancy pass from Jake Loverock to double the lead. Aaron Mak added a powerplay goal to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.
In the third as expected, the Sockeyes came in waves as the score effect settled in. The Sockeyes finally get on the board early breaking Geraghty’s shut out bid. The Steelers settled down after conceding the goal pushing back from the Sockeyes constant attempts of attack. Things got very interesting at the end as a string of penalties hit the Steelers and things were looking grim they would give up a 3rd period lead on consecutive nights. Defenseman Adam gets called for a Blow to the Head after coincidental contact in the Steelers end at 16:42. Captain Jarod Yao gets called for a holding penalty at 17:30 to give the Sockeyes a 5 on 3. The Sockeyes pulled their goalie to go up 6 on 3. The Steelers killed one of the penalty but then Stafford gets called for a penalty to go down 6 on 3 once again. The Steelers Penalty Kill team led by goaltender Geraghty out battled the Sockeyes to preserved the victory.
The Steelers generated 23 shots while the Sockeyes outshot the Steelers with 44 shots of their own.
