The Grandview Steelers finished their home stand with one thing in mind, win.
It’s a common mindset every game, this was yet another high stakes game. Beating the Port Moody Panthers 6-0 in their last home game of the PJHL regular season the Grandview Steelers have tied the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Tom Shaw Conference.
This game was a showing of the teams development throughout the season and the Steelers had controlled the tempo. Despite being scoreless in the 1st period the Grandview Steelers peppered the net with 14 shots. Rajan Bassi tended the net well, keeping the Panthers in the game.
However, the 2nd and 3rd period is where the Steelers dominance translated to goals. Building off a strong 1st period the Steelers potted in four goals in the 2nd, led by Noah Gibbons. And the icing on the cake, Steven Konechny scored his 50th career PJHL goal in what is his last year in Junior-A hockey.
With the Panthers getting into more penalty troubles throughout the 2nd Tyson Osachoff scored on an individual drive to the net and Noah Gibbons snapped in his 2nd powerplay goal of the game.
The 3rd period was a bit more lax with the Steelers keeping majority possession and scoring two more goals to cap off what was a well controlled game for Grandview. You can watch the highlights here:
Though this is a big win, at the time of this win the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers have two more games remaining in their regular season schedule. In order for the Steelers to qualify for the 5th and final playoff spot the Trailblazers will have to lose both games.
