Steelers Win: A Clutch Thriller

The Grandview Steelers secure back to back wins after beating the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers 5-4 in regulation.

For any fan it was the perfect hockey game, lots of goals, lots of chances, some big hits and big saves.

The Steelers started off the 1st period hot, with the first line of Steven Konechny, Colby Longeau and Kori Belanger kicking things off. Belanger and Konechny scoring the first two goals of the game.

Heading into the 2nd period the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers picked up momentum with an early 2nd period goal. However, the Steelers kept the offence on full throttle with Belanger potting in his 2nd of the game and Aidan Mukai following up with a goal shortly after.

Heading into the 3rd period with a 4-1 lead, the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers gained momentum with three power-play opportunities and one penalty shot. Despite not scoring on the penalty shot or power-plays, the momentum gained propelled three consecutive Trailblazers goals.

All seemed to be heading into overtime until rookie forward Tyson Osachoff scored on a short-handed two on one break. Securing a crucial two points for the Grandview Steelers.

With the Steelers now one win out of the final playoff spot in the Tom Shaw Conference, the boys are looking to secure another win this Sunday (January 25th/2024) as they host the North Vancouver Wolfpack.
