HIGH SHOOTING AFFAIR PUT TO REST BY HAT TRICK

Written by Zach Clarke

The Surrey Knights came out of the gate hard, outshooting the Steelers heavily in the first 8 minutes, and 7:54 into the first, got the game’s first goal. But Grandview retaliated hard, scoring 4 goals in just 4 minutes and 15 seconds. Two of which were from Max Chelico, including a beautiful breakaway finish.

The second period had hard-fought action at both ends, including many shots for both squads, but stellar goaltending from both teams kept it scoreless until halfway through the period when the Knights found their groove. Burying two goals in 3 minutes to make it 4-3, the Knights held the Steelers on the back foot, until the first penalty of the game was called against the Knights. Defensive plays kept the rest of the period scoreless.

The third period looked as if the Knights might even the score, but goaltender Nicholas Muc made several quality saves in a row to keep them off the board. Kaz Soda, after taking a few hard hits by the Knights defense, got his revenge with his second goal of the game. With the dying minutes of the third period quickly ticking down, Max Chelico got his 3rd of the night with a rebound in front of the net, for a well earned hat-trick. The Steelers ended up out-shooting the Knights 57-33, for their 4th consecutive home win.

The most notable Steelers players include Max Chelico with a hat-trick, Kaz Soda with 2 goals, and Nicholas Muc with 30 saves.
