The Steelers add Alumni David Boyce to the Coaching Staff

Boyce has taken the PMAHA Bantam team to four consecutive provincials and is looking to return home to the Steelers

The Grandview Steelers are proud to announce the hiring of alumni David Boyce as the new assistant coach for the upcoming season, joining alongside new head coach Jim Camazzola.

“I am super excited about the opportunity to coach at the junior level for the Steelers. I loved my time there as a Steelers [player],” said Boyce, “I have a lot of friends there, a lot of stories, and looking forward to working with Aldo [Bruno] once again.”

Boyce was always a smart hockey player so his success as a coach is to no one surprise. He started coaching with the Coquitlam bantam program before moving back to the Burnaby Winter Club working with Coach Bill Hunt leading the peewee teams to 4 provincial championship seasons. He then became head coach of the bantam a teams and midget a teams for the Port Moody Amateur Hockey Association, leading them to 4 consecutive provincial finishes.

“I am thrilled to bring back Steelers alumni David back as a coach,” said Aldo “His track record as a coach with Port Moody [Bantam and Midget teams] shows he is effective at teaching the game to young players. We are excited to bring in his energy back into the dressing room.”

The Steelers alumni is enthusiastic about returning to his roots where he started as a Tyke through to Bantam with the BWC before joining the Steelers for two seasons. His memories with the club are some of his favourites even though injuries played a factor to shorten his playing career. Giving back to the hockey community is an opportunity he cherishes in helping young players move to the next level to fulfil their dreams. He’s great at running the bench and has great vision for the game and adapting on the fly. He’s eager for the season to start and getting back to the rink.
